Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance

The Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance supports the missions of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and the College of Business by preparing students for careers in accounting, economics, and finance fields. These careers include auditing, tax accounting, accounting systems, economic development, economic forecasting financial management, corporate finance, and financial institutions and markets in the public and private, profit and non-profit sectors.

Economics Major, B.S.

Students who prefer a more liberal arts and sciences orientation may pursue a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with a major in Business Administration, Economics or any one of three computer-related majors (Please see the Business Information Technology and Systems section of this catalog for more details.) The B.A. or B.S. major in Business Administration choice is recommended for any student whose goal is to obtain public school teaching credentials in Business under the 1987 Texas Standards for the Teaching Profession. The B.A. or B.S. major in Economics is recommended as preparation for work in government, the public sector, private business and public school teaching with credentials in Economics. The B.A. or B.S. major in Computer Studies choice is recommended for any student whose goal is to obtain public school teaching credentials in Computer/Information Systems/Technology. No grade lower than ā€œCā€ will count toward fulfillment of major field requirements. Student must complete a minor, with a minimum of 18 semester hours and a maximum of 24 semester hours, in a department in which minors are offered. A minimum of 6 semester hours must be upper level (3000-4000).
