The recital is being billed as Dr. Crawford's "25th Anniversary Recital" celebrating his 25 years in music education. The recital will feature music by Antonio C. Lymon, Ney Rosauro, Toshiro Mayuzumi and many of Crawford's original compositions. Appearing with Crawford, will be Scott Dudley, Butch Hayes, Craig George, Sheryl Goodnight, all of the Temple Symphony Orchestra, and accompanist Nelda Milligan.
"I wanted to feature both old and new friends on this program. The music will feature the marimba with flute, piano, and even a marimba quartet. The Temple Symphony has some of the best musicians around so I definitely wanted to include my colleagues as well," said Crawford.
The recital will include the world premiere performance of Crawford's new work entitled Butterflies, Mountains, Bamboo for solo marimba, which is scheduled for publication later this spring. An award-winning composer, his marimba compositions have been performed around the world and are quickly becoming standards in the repertoire.
As a nationally recognized conductor and scholar of wind and percussion music, Dr. Crawford is in demand as a percussion performer, clinician, lecturer, and guest conductor having appeared throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Ireland, Taiwan, and Indonesia. He will teach in London, England in spring 2009 as part of the UMHB study abroad program. He was awarded the 2005 UMHB Faculty Award for Excellence in Scholarship, and was a 2004 nominee for Composer of the Year by the Texas Music Teachers Association, and is a four-time winner of the Barclay Music Composition Contest.
