BB tops Sul Ross State 11-3

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team took control of the game with a seven-run fourth inning and the Cru rolled to an 11-3 victory over Sul Ross State to complete a three-game series sweep of the Lobos Sunday afternoon in Belton. UMHB improves to 14-3 overall and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops Sul Ross State to 3-14 overall and 0-3 in the ASC.
The Lobos took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before UMHB tied it on an error in the bottom of the third. The Cru then exploded for seven runs in the fourth to break it open. Earnest Pena singled home the first run, Marcus Volz doubled home two more, Joseph Villegas doubled home a run and Steven Reinlie closed out the scoring with a three-run homer. UMHB added a run on a passed ball in the sixth to make it 9-1. Sul Ross then sandwiched runs around a two-run eighth for the Cru for the final margin.
Adrian Montoya earned the win for UMHB with six innings of three-hit pitching. Michael Otero took the loss for Sul Ross. Volz was 3-4 for UMHB and Villegas, Pena and Adam Froeschl added two hits apiece for the Cru.
The Cru will return to action with a three-game ASC West Division series at Hardin-Simmons next weekend. The two teams will open the weekend with a 7:00 PM single-game Friday night before closing out the weekend with a 12:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday.
