BB duo sweeps West Division honors

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team swept American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week honors for the week ending March 9th. R.B. Garza was named West Division Pitcher of the Week and Marcus Volz earned West Division Hitter of the Week honors.

Garza, a junior pitcher/infielder from Katy Cinco Ranch High School, threw a complete-game shutout in a 1-0 win over Sul Ross State last Saturday. Garza scattered three hits, striking out five and walking just one. He only faced two batters over the minimum in picking up his third win of the season.

Volz, a junior outfielder from Katy Cinco Ranch High School, batted .692 for the week. He was 9-13 at the plate in four games. He batted a sizzling .818 in UMHB's three game sweep of Sul Ross over the weekend. Volz had three doubles, three stolen bases and a home run. He scored four runs and drove in three more during the week.

The Cru is currently 14-3 overall and 3-0 in ASC play on the season. UMHB will return to action with a three-game ASC West Division series at Hardin-Simmons this weekend in Abilene.
