BB rolls over SAGU 20-10

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team exploded for 26 hits and the Cru rolled to a 20-10 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University Tuesday afternoon in Belton. UMHB improves to 19-5 on the season with the victory. The loss drops the Lions to 11-15 on the year.
The Lions grabbed a 3-0 lead with three unearned runs in the top of the first inning. UMHB cut it to 3-2 on Steven Reinlie's RBI single and Jonathan Whitehead's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. SAGU added a run to make it 4-2 before the Cru added five more in the bottom of the second. Earnest Pena doubled home a run and scored on Marcus Volz's RBI triple. Andrew White added an RBI double, Reinlie hit a sacrifice fly and R.B. Garza added a solo home run. Pena added a two-run homer in the third to make it 9-4. The Lions added two more in the fourth before Volz ripped a grand slam and another run scored on a balk as the Cru stretched the lead to 14-6 in the bottom of the fourth. SAGU scored another in the fifth, but Pena blasted his second two-run homer of the game and the Cru got an RBI double from Adam Froeschl and an RBI single from Les Sarles to push it to 18-7 in the fifth. The Lions scored three more in the seventh before UMHB pushed across two more runs in the bottom of the eighth. Josh Shaw was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Alfredo Melendez singled home a run to end the game on the run rule.
White was 5-5 for UMHB with four runs scored. Pena was 4-4 with five RBI and four runs scored. Volz, Froeschl and Reinlie all had three hits apiece and Volz was a double short of hitting for the cycle. Corey Dobbins earned the win for UMHB to raise his record to 3-0. Dobbins struck out six and allowed just three earned runs in five innings of work. Gabe Hensley had three hits for SAGU and Brady James added two hits for the Lions.
The Cru will continue its home stand with a three-game American Southwest Conference West Division series against Texas Lutheran University this weekend. UMHB will host the Bulldogs for a 2:00 PM single game on Friday before the two teams close out the weekend with a 12:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday.
