BB places eight on All-Division Team; Wells named Coach of the Year

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team placed a total of eight players on the American Southwest Conference All-West Division Teams released today. Cru head coach Micah Wells was also voted ASC West Division Tri-Coach of the Year. UMHB had four First Team All-West selections, three Second Team All-West picks and one Honorable Mention All-West choice.
Wells was named ASC West Division Tri-Coach of the Year after leading UMHB to a share of its first ASC West Division title. Wells led the Cru to a 28-12 overall record and UMHB went 14-7 in the ASC West. UMHB advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament for the second straight year and Wells also won West Division Coach of the Year honors last season.
Starting pitcher/designated hitter R.B. Garza earned First Team All-West Division honors as both a starting pitcher and a utility player. Garza, a junior from Katy Cinco Ranch High School, led the Cru with a 6-3 pitching record and he also posted 74 strikeouts and a 4.67 ERA in 71.1 innings pitched. He batted .277 with four home runs and 24 RBI as a designated hitter/second baseman. Outfielders Joseph Villegas and Marcus Volz joined Garza on the All-West Division First Team. Villegas, a sophomore from Hays High School, batted .427 with 21 doubles, a school-record seven triples, eight home runs and 44 RBI. Villegas slugged .772 and stole 12 bases on the season. Volz, a junior from Katy Cinco Ranch High School, batted .400 with a school-record 22 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 33 RBI. He also stole a team-best 17 bases.
The Cru placed three infielders on the All-West Division Second Team. First baseman Steven Reinlie, second baseman Adam Froeschl and third baseman Andrew White all earned spots on the All-West Division Second Team. Reinlie, a senior from Round Rock High School, batted .327, led the team with 47 RBI and tied for the team lead with 10 home runs. Froeschl, a senior from Hays High School, led the Cru with a .439 batting average. He had 13 doubles, five homers and 46 RBI on the season. White, a sophomore from Cy-Creek High School, batted .388 and finished second on the Cru with 16 stolen bases. White added nine doubles, four triples, two home runs and 31 RBI.
Earnest Pena was voted Honorable Mention All-West Division. Pena, a senior outfielder from West Columbia High School, batted .383 and tied for the team lead with 10 home runs. He also had eight doubles, three triples and 39 RBI on the year.
This is the third All-West Division selection for Garza. Villegas, Volz, Froeschl Pena and Reinlie are two-time All-West Division selections. This is the first All-West Division honor for White. The ASC baseball honors stop at the division level, there is no ASC All-Conference baseball team selected.
