05/01/08

Ken DeWeese - TABC Small College Coach of the Year

Belton, TX - University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball coach Ken DeWeese has been named Small College Men's Basketball Coach of the Year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. The award recognizes the top collegiate coach in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA and is voted on by TABC members from across the state.

DeWeese led the Cru to a 26-4 overall record and the second round of the NCAA Division III National Championships this past season. UMHB won its first American Southwest Conference Championship, qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year and won an NCAA game for the first time in the program's history. DeWeese also guided the Cru to a #17 ranking in the final D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll and the UMHB men were ranked as high as fourth in the country during the season. The Cru also posted its highest single-season victory total since moving to NCAA Division III. DeWeese was voted ASC West Division Coach of the Year for the third time in his ten seasons in Belton.

"It is always nice to be recognized by your peers," DeWeese said. "But this is really a credit to our players, coaches and our program. We have some really good coaches and players who deserve this recognition more than I do."

DeWeese will receive his award during the TABC Convention and Clinic this weekend in San Antonio.
