MG ties for fifth place at West Region Invitational

Georgetown, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's golf team fired another consistent round, but the Cru could not move up on the final day of the West Region Invitational Tuesday afternoon in Georgetown. The UMHB men fired a 306-295-300=901 team total to tie McMurry University (301-293-307=901) for fifth place in the team standings. University of La Verne (294-290-299=883) won the team title in a playoff with University of Redlands (291-298-294=883). Texas Lutheran University finished in third place after shooting 292-301-301=894 and U.T.-Dallas claimed fourth place with a 312-290-298=900 score, one shot better than UMHB and McMurry. Trinity University was seventh with a 300-308-296=904, California Lutheran University took eighth place at 310-305-307=922, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was ninth at 311-317-301=929, Southwestern University finished 10th at 311-314-305=930, Hardin-Simmons University took 11th place after shooting 317-305-309=931 and Concordia Texas was 12th with a 351-340-341=1032 team total. The two-day, 54-hole event was played on a par-72, 6,648-yard layout at Berry Creek Golf Course in Georgetown.

Davis Dewald posted the top individual finish for the Cru. Dewald fired a 76-73-74=223 to tie for 12th place individually. Eric White tied for 22nd place after posting a 76-80-72=228, Casey Wharton tied for 27th place with an 80-71-78=229, Ryan Eastman (81-76-76) and Garrison Nordt (74-75-84) tied for 37th place with 233's, Travis Bice carded a 78-77-84=239 to tie for 50th place, Shaun Felechner tied for 61st with an 83-87-77=247 and Jackson Chandler finished 65th with an 83-84-86=253. McMurry University's Aaron Garza won the individual title after shooting 70-69-75=214.

The tournament was the final tune-up for the UMHB men before the American Southwest Conference Tournament. The ASC Tournament will be played April 21st and 22nd at Hurricane Creek Golf Course in Anna, Texas.
