MG still tied for seventh at NCAA Tournament

Braselton, GA- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's golf team fired its lowest round of the tournament and the Cru held its ground during the third round of the NCAA Division III National Championships Thursday afternoon in Georgia. The Cru fired a 298 today and the UMHB men have a three-day total of 311-302-298=911 and remained in a tie for seventh place with University of La Verne (291-322-298=911). St. John Fisher has the team lead after posting a 302-294-297=893, good for a four shot lead over the University of Redlands 304-300-293=897. Methodist College is in third place with a 311-298-291=900, one stroke ahead of fourth-place and defending national champion St. John's 314-291-296=901. Oglethorpe University is in fifth place after shooting a 306-296-303=905 and Skidmore University is in sixth place, five shots ahead of UMHB and La Verne with a 301-310-295=906. Huntingdon College is five shots behind the Cru and Leopards with a ninth-place total of 305-311-300=916 and Wesley College rounds out the top ten with a 311-304-305=920 team score. All 23 teams remaining in the tournament field played the par-71, 7,030-yard layout at the Chateau Course and the Chateau Elan Golf Course in Braselton, Georgia.

Davis Dewald fired the low individual round for the Cru today as he posted an even-par 71. For the tournament, Dewald is tied for 27th place with a 78-78-71=227. Casey Wharton continues to lead UMHB overall. Wharton is tied for 14th place after carding a 74-74-76=224 total. Eric White moved into a tie for 49th place for the Cru with an 84-75-73=232, Ryan Eastman is tied for place with an 81-75-78=234 and Garrison Nordt is tied for 91st place with a 78-83-80=241. Scott Harris, Jr. of St. John Fisher continues to hold down the individual lead with a three-under-par total of 68-71-71=210.

"We've gotten better every day of this tournament and we are excited to have a chance to move up on the final day," Cru head coach Randy Mann said. "We left some shots out there and didn't play our best on the final three holes. They kept competing out there though and we know that we have one more day to try and make a move tomorrow."

The Cru will begin teeing off at 11:50 AM Central Time tomorrow for the final round. The UMHB men will be part of the afternoon wave of the final round. Teams will once again play the Chateau Course. The round will be the final round for the Cru men under Mann's direction as head coach. Mann will make the move to full-time Associate Director of Athletics for UMHB in June.
