Two men's golfers earn GCAA national honors

Belton, TX - University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's golfers Casey Wharton and Ryan Eastman both earned national awards from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) during last week's NCAA Division III National Championships.

Wharton, a senior from Groesbeck High School, was named Ping/GCAA Third Team All-American following his performance during the national tournament. Wharton finished in a tie for 19th place individually after shooting 74-74-76-77=301 during the tournament. Wharton is one of just two American Southwest Conference golfers to earn All-American recognition from the GCAA.

Eastman, a senior Christian Ministry major from San Angelo Central High School, was named Cleveland/GCAA All-American Scholar-Athlete. Eastman is the only ASC golfer to earn All-American Scholar-Athlete honors. To be eligible for All-American Scholar-Athlete honors, a player must maintain a GPA of 3.20 or better, carry a stroke average of 79.0 or lower and play in at least 70 per cent of the team's competitive rounds that year.

The UMHB men's golf team made its first appearance in the NCAA Division III National Championships last week. The Cru finished 10th overall in the team standings after shooting 311-302-298-310=1221.
