MS edges Ozarks 1-0
10/12/07
Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team took advantage of an Ozarks turnover and the Cru defense did the rest as the UMHB men posted a 1-0 victory over the University of the Ozarks Friday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improves to 7-5-1 overall and 6-1-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. UMHB also moves one point ahead of the Eagles in the ASC standings with the win. The loss drops Ozarks to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the ASC on the season.
The two teams were locked up in a scoreless duel midway through the first half when Ozarks goalkeeper Brian Sarber tried to clear a ball. The clearing attempt ricocheted off UMHB's Brian McDaniel as the two players went down in a heap and rolled into the empty net for what proved to be the only goal of the game. The defenses took over from there. Jude Austin grabbed five saves in goal for the Cru to post his third shutout of the season. Sarber also finished with five saves. Ozarks out shot UMHB 18-13 in the match.
The Cru will continue its home stand with another ASC showdown tomorrow. The UMHB men will play host to U.T.-Dallas for a 3:00 PM start at the Cru Sports Plex.
