MS edges Mississippi College in overtime

Clinton, MS - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team fought back from a second-half deficit and the Cru went on to post a 2-1 overtime victory over Mississippi College Saturday afternoon in Clinton, Mississippi. The UMHB men improve to 9-6-1 overall and 8-2-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Choctaws to 9-4-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the ASC.
The two teams were scoreless deep into the second half before the Choctaws drew first blood. Keith Armstrong scored off an assist from Phillip Buffington at the 59:39 mark. UMHB tied the match when Tyler Wagner scored off an assist from Richard Ellis at the 80:20 mark. It would stay that way until Jonathan Hernandez scored unassisted 6:39 into the first overtime for the victory. Jude Austin had three saves in goal for UMHB. Gareth DeKlerk posted five saves for the Choctaws.
The UMHB men will now return home to close out the regular season with a pair of ASC matches next weekend. The Cru will play host to McMurry University for a 3:00 PM start next Friday before welcoming defending ASC champion Hardin-Simmons to the Cru Sports Plex for a 3:00 PM start on Saturday. UMHB needs to win at least one of those matches to clinch a berth in the ASC Championship Tournament.
