MS beats Hardin-Simmons 1-0

Belton, TX- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team used a late goal and a solid defensive effort to post a 1-0 victory over Hardin-Simmons University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win over the Cowboys is the first for the UMHB men's soccer team since at least 1997 and the Cru improves to 11-6-1 overall and 10-2-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops Hardin-Simmons to 8-7-1 overall and 8-4-1 in the ASC on the year.
The two teams were locked up in a scoreless duel until UMHB finally dented the scoreboard when Juan Lopez converted off an assist from Brett Tasin in the 88th minute of the match. The Cru defense would make it stand up for the victory. Jude Austin finished with five saves in goal for UMHB to post his second shutout of the weekend.
The match closes out the regular season for the UMHB men. The Cru will now advance to the ASC Championship Tournament next weekend in Clarksville, Arkansas. The UMHB men are the #3 seed and will open the tournament with a first round game against U.T.-Tyler next Friday at 2:00 PM. The winner will move on to face U.T.-Dallas in a 2:00 PM semifinal on Saturday.
