MS player named to Internet Honor Team

10/30/07

Belton, TX - University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer player Juan Lopez has been named to the D3kicks.com Team of the Week for the week ending October 28th. Lopez, a senior defender from Reicher High School in Waco, led a Cru defense that posted a pair of shutouts last weekend. Lopez helped spearhead a defensive attack that held McMurry and Hardin-Simmons to a combined 12 shots. Lopez also scored two goals, including the game-winner to give UMHB it's first-ever victory over Hardin-Simmons. The win over the Cowboys also helped the Cru clinch the #3 seed in this weekend's ASC Championship Tournament, the highest seed for UMHB in the program's history.

The Cru is currently 11-6-1 overall and 10-2-1 in ASC play. UMHB has earned ASC Tournament berths in back-to-back seasons for the first time in the program's history. The Cru will open the ASC Tournament with a 2:00 PM first-round game against U.T.-Tyler on Friday. The winner of that match will advance to take on U.T.-Dallas in a 2:00 PM semifinal on Saturday. The 2007 ASC Men's Soccer Tournament will be hosted by the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas.
