Clarksville, AR - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team could not create enough offense to overcome a pair of second-half goals and the Cru fell 2-0 to U.T.-Tyler in the first round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Friday afternoon in Clarksville, Arkansas. The UMHB men finish the season with an 11-7-1 overall record. The Patriots improve to 12-6 on the season and move on to face U.T.-Dallas in a 2:00 PM semifinal match tomorrow afternoon.
The two teams were scoreless through a hard-fought first half. U.T.-Tyler grabbed a 1-0 lead when Cole Brittain scored off an assist from Michael Kendall at the 56:40 mark of the match. The Patriots added an insurance goal when Kendall converted an assist from Adam McAlpine at the 86:31 mark. That would be more then enough as the UMHB offense managed just three shots in the match. Cru goalkeeper Jude Austin posted seven saves for UMHB. Geoff Sherman made one save to post the shutout for U.T.-Tyler.
The UMHB men were in the ASC Championship Tournament in back-to-back seasons for the first time in the program's history. Friday's match was the final match for eight Cru seniors. Bruce Cobbs, Andrew Dickerson, Richard Ellis, Blake Judice, Mickey Kerr, Juan Lopez, Brett Tasin and Jeremy Whiteurst all closed out their UMHB careers with Friday's match.
