FB places 13 on D3football.com All-Region Team

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team placed 13 players on the D3football.com All-South Region Team. Linebacker Jerrell Freeman was also named South Region Defensive Player of the Year on that team. The Cru had eight first-team selections, two second team picks and three third-team honorees.

Freeman, a senior from Waco University High School, headlined the UMHB selections by winning South Region Defensive Player of the Year honors and being voted to the All-South Region First Team. Freeman finished with a team-high 112 tackles and also added 18.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, seven pass break-ups, three forced fumbles and he also blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown. Freeman was joined on the First Team Defense by free safety Derrick Williams. Williams, a junior from Temple High School, posted 69 tackles and tied for the team lead with five interceptions. Williams also broke up eight passes.

Six Cru players were voted to the First Team Offense. Running back Jarvis Thrasher, a senior from Temple High School, ran for a UMHB and American Southwest Conference record 1,899 yards and tied the ASC record with 23 rushing touchdowns. Tight end Peter Medlock, a senior from Brownwood High School, was a punishing blocker and added nine catches for 190 yards. Kicker Joel Munoz, a senior from Ferris High School, hit 13-16 field goals and set UMHB and ASC records by hitting 84-87 extra points and scoring 123 points on the season. Three Cru offensive linemen also earned First Team nods: tackle Caleb Woodall, a senior from Harlingen, center Tyler Hykel, a senior from West High School, and guard Jordan Hataway, a senior from Gatesville High School. Those three players were the highest-grading offensive linemen for the Cru and helped clear the way for a UMHB rushing attack that averaged 355.9 yards per game and the team surrendered just 10 sacks on the year.

Guard Josh Littlejohn and defensive end William Dewease were both named to the All-South Region Second Team. Littlejohn, a junior from Clear Creek High School, was another part of that dominating UMHB offensive line. Dewease, a senior from Leon High School, led the Cru with 19.5 tackles for loss and set a new school record with 9.5 sacks. Dewease added 67 total tackles, four pass break-ups and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Running back Quincy Daniels, a sophomore from Belton High School, was a Third Team selection. Daniels ran for 1,566 yards and 19 touchdowns and added a touchdown reception and a kickoff return for a score. Defensive end Chad Hilton and linebacker Eric Henri were voted to the Third Team Defense. Hilton, a senior from Magnolia High School, recorded 8.0 sacks and 14.0 tackles for loss. He also posted 47 tackles, blocked two kicks and returned an interception for a touchdown. Henri, a junior from Lake Dallas High School, was second on the team with 86 tackles and he added 14.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. Henri also broke up five passes, recovered two fumbles, forced two more and added a pair of safeties.

The Cru finished the season with a 12-2 overall record and went 8-0 in winning the American Southwest Conference championship. UMHB advanced to the NCAA Division III National Semifinals before falling to Wisconsin-Whitewater 16-7.
