FB alum Elex Reed signs with AFL

Belton, TX - Former University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football player Elex Reed has signed with the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League, becoming the first former UMHB player to sign with the AFL. Reed, a defensive lineman and native of Mexia, spent last season playing for the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings of AF2, earning Lineman of the Year honors and First Team All-AF2 honors in the league. Reed finished the season with 47.5 total tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks. He also forced three fumbles, recovered two others and blocked two kicks for the Battle Wings. The Cleveland franchise will open its first season of play on March 3rd. The team will report to training camp in early February.
Reed was a four-year letterman for the UMHB football team (2002-2005) and he was American Southwest Conference Co-Defensive Lineman of the Year as a senior in 2005. He was a three-time All-ASC selection and finished his Cru career with 168 tackles, 13.5 sacks and 36 tackles for loss.
