WBB advances to ASC Championship Tournament

Tyler, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team will open its third straight American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament appearance with an 8:00 PM first-round game against ASC East Division champion and tournament host U.T.-Tyler tomorrow night in Tyler. The Cru women finished the regular season at 14-11 overall and UMHB went 12-9 in American Southwest Conference play. U.T.-Tyler won the ASC West Division with a 17-8 overall record and a 14-6 mark in ASC play. The Lady Patriots also beat the Cru women 79-72 in the regular season meeting between the two teams back in December in Tyler. UMHB is making its third straight appearance in the ASC Championship Tournament and its fifth overall appearance in the tournament. The Cru women are 3-4 all-time in the ASC Championship Tournament and advanced to the tournament championship game in both 2001 and 2006. The winner of the UMHB/UTT game will move on to a 5:00 PM semifinal game on Saturday against the winner of the McMurry University vs. U.T.-Dallas opening round game. The other side of the bracket features Howard Payne University taking on Louisiana College at 1:00 PM on Friday and Hardin-Simmons facing Mississippi College in a 3:00 PM start. The ASC Tournament Championship Game will be played at 2:00 PM on Sunday with the tournament champ earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
