Basketball teams place two on ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team

03/12/08

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor basketball teams placed two student-athletes on the American Southwest Conference Winter Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team today.

Zane Johnston represents the Cru on the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Men's Basketball Team. Johnston is a sophomore guard and exercise and sport science major from Albany High School.

Kellie Thomas represents UMHB on the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Women's Basketball Team. Thomas is a sophomore forward and mathematics major from New Braunfels High School.

This is the first year for the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams. The honor recognizes student-athletes that achieve a higher level of academic achievement (a 3.20 grade-point average or better) while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team. From that list, limited to one nominee per school in each ASC Championship sport - the Sports Information Directors from the conference's 15 member institutions vote on a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete from each sport. Mississippi College's Tyler Winford was voted Male Winter Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and McMurry University's Tarra Richardson took Female honors.
