Salado, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team struggled to put together five consistent rounds and the Cru women are tied for ninth place after the first round of the UMHB Spring Invitational Monday afternoon in Salado. The UMHB women fired a 368 to tie with Western Texas Community College for ninth place. Oklahoma City University has the team lead after firing a 304 total, 22 shots ahead of second-place Redlands Community College's 326. Southwestern University is third with a 334, Lubbock Christian is fourth at 348 and McMurry University rounds out the top five with a 352. Trinity University is in sixth place with a 362, Hardin-Simmons University is seventh with a 364 and U.T.-Tyler is one stroke ahead of UMHB and WTCC with a 367. U.C.-Santa Cruz is 11th with a 371, Texas Lutheran University is in 12th place with a 378 and Schreiner University is 13th with a 381 team total. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played on a par-73, 5,816-yard layout at Mill Creek Golf Course in Salado.

UMHB was led by sophomore Christi Williams. Williams is tied for 13th place after shooting 85 in her first competitive round after a summer shoulder injury. Courtney Nelson and Allison Williams shot 92 for UMHB and are tied for 39th place, Kathryne Lozano shot 99 to tie for 59th and Taylour Shaw posted a 100 to tie for 61st place. Oklahoma City held down the top four individual spots, led by Tamara Campbell's one over par 74.

The tournament will wrap up with 18 more holes tomorrow. Teams will tee off with a shotgun start at 9:00 AM.
