WG finishes ninth at UMHB Spring Invitational

Salado, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team finished ninth at the UMHB Spring Invitational Tuesday afternoon in Salado. The Cru women finished with a 368-371=739 team total and finished just sixth shots out of sixth place. Oklahoma City University ran away with the team title after firing a 304-321=625 to finish 56 shots ahead of second-place Redlands Community College's 326-355=681. Lubbock Christian University was third with a 348-341=689, Southwestern University took fourth place at 334-367=701 and McMurry University rounded out the top five with a 352-364=716. Hardin-Simmons University finished sixth with a 364-369=733, Trinity University was seventh with a 362-372=734 and U.T.-Tyler took eighth place, two shots ahead of the Cru women with a 367-370=737. Western Texas Community College finished 10th with a 368-380=748, Schreiner University claimed 11th place with a 381-376=757, U.C.-Santa Cruz posted a 371-390=761 for 12th place and Texas Lutheran University was 13th with a 378-391=769. The two-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-73, 5,816-yard layout at Mill Creek Golf Course in Salado.
Christi Williams led UMHB with an 85-95=180 to finish in a tie for 26th place. Allison Williams carded a 92-92=184 for 35th place, Courtney Nelson (92-96) and Taylour Shaw (100-88) tied for 45th place after shooting 188's and Kathryne Lozano fired a 99-98=197 to tie for 60th place for UMHB. Oklahoma City's Sydney Cox won the individual title in a scorecard playoff with teammate Ashley Sholer. Both players fired 77-79=156's.
The Cru women will return to action with the St. Edward's University Tournament on March 3-4. That tournament will be played at The Golf Club at Circle C in Austin.
