WG in 16th place at St. Edward's Invitational

Austin, TX- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team struggled in cold, wet, windy conditions and the Cru women are in 16th place after the opening round of the St. Edward's Invitational Monday in Austin. The UMHB women shot 391 after waiting out a two-hour, 15-minute weather delay. The Cru women are eight shots behind 15th place Newman University's 383 total. The University of Texas junior varsity has the tournament lead after firing a 331 team total, four shots better than the second-place tandem of St. Edward's University and Tarleton State University's 335's. Western Washington University is fourth with a 345, Chico State holds down fifth place with a 346, Northeastern State is sixth at 356, Western New Mexico and Southwestern University both shot 357's to tie for seventh, Hawaii-Hilo is ninth with a 359 and Dallas Baptist University rounds out the top ten with a 362. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played on a par-71, 6,600-yard layout at The Golf Course at Circle C in Austin.

UMHB was led individually by Taylour Shaw's 95. Shaw is tied for 59th place individually. Kathryne Lozano shot 96 for UMHB to tie for 66th place, Christi Williams is tied for 74th with a 98 and Allison Williams and Courtney Nelson both posted 102's to tie for 82nd place. U.T.'s Erica Doody carded a 78 to hold the individual lead, one stroke ahead of Southwestern's Kristen Davenport.

The tournament will wrap up with 18 more holes tomorrow. Teams will tee of with a shotgun start at 8:00 AM.
