WG ties for 18th place at Jekyll Island Invitational

Jekyll Island, GA - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team fired three consistent rounds and the Cru women tied for 18th place at the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Tournament this weekend in Georgia. UMHB fired a 367-359-376=1102 team total to tie with tournament host Oglethorpe University (379-358-365=1102). Berry College won the team title after posting a 318-320-321=959, seven strokes ahead of Shorter College's 321-316-329=966. The University of St. Thomas finished third with a 322-331-334=987, Southwestern University took fourth place after carding a 337-320-336=993 and Savannah College of Art and Design rounded out the top five with a 339-323-336=998. Wisconsin-Stevens Point was sixth at 339-329-336=1004, Williams College claimed seventh place with a 330-341-339=1010, Illinois Wesleyan finished eighth with a 347-324-344=1015, Allegheny College took ninth place after recording a 342-328-354=1024 and Otterbein College posted 345-329-353=1027 for tenth place. Amherst College was 11th at 348-337-356=1041, Carleton College finished 12th with a 343-356-358=1057, McMurry University was 13th at 353-340-367=1060, Rhodes College took 14th place with a 354-350-357=1061, Trinity University finished 15th with a 357-350-355=1062, Wartburg College was 16th at 358-347-368=1073 and Centre College fired a 359-366-364=1089 to finish 17th, 13 strokes ahead of UMHB and Oglethorpe. Piedmont College finished 20th with a 367-368-368=1103, Washington and Jefferson shot 373-375-358=1106 for 21st place, U.T.-Tyler finished 22nd with a 376-371-370=1117, Wisconsin-Whitewater posted a 370-377-379=1126 for 23rd, Wittenberg was 24th with a 389-366-394=1149, Illinois College finished 25th after shooting 394-372-397=1163 and Transylvania University was 26th with a 432-420-431=1283 team score. The three-day, 54-hole event was played on a par-72, 5,830-yard layout on the Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Georgia.

UMHB was led individually by Kathryne Lozano. Lozano fired an 85-86-93=264 to tie for 61st place, Allison Williams shot 87-84-94=265 for the Cru women to tie for 65th place, Taylour Shaw finished 92nd after posting 93-92-94=279 and Courtney Nelson finished 118th with a 102-97-95=294 for UMHB. Jessica Urban of Wisconsin-Stevens Point won the individual title after carding a 77-74-78=229 total.

The UMHB women will now return to action with a trip to the Northwood University Invitational. That tournament will be played March 31st and April 1st at Harbor Lake Golf Course in Granbury.
