WG leads LeTourneau University Spring Classic

Longview, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team put together five solid scores and the Cru women have the team lead after the first round of the LeTourneau University Spring Classic Monday in Longview. The UMHB women fired a 352 team total and hold a nine-stroke lead over second-place U.T.-Tyler's 361 team score. McMurry University and Northwood University both shot 365's to tie for third place. Hardin-Simmons University is in fifth place with a 368, and tournament host LeTourneau University is in sixth place with a 398 score. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played on a par-72, 5,826-yard layout at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview.

Taylour Shaw fired the best individual round for the UMHB women. Shaw shot 85 and is tied for third-place individually. Christi Williams carded an 87 for the Cru women and is tied for fifth place, Courtney Nelson is tied for ninth place after posting an 88, Kathryne Lozano fired a 92 to tie for 17th place and Allison Williams is tied for 19th place with a 93. Alicia Yoder of U.T.-Dallas has the individual lead after shooting 81 on Monday, two strokes ahead of LeTourneau's Leslie Lee and her 83.

The tournament wraps up with 18 more holes tomorrow. Teams will tee of with a shotgun start at 8:00 AM. This tournament is also the final tune-up for teams before the American Southwest Conference Tournament next Monday and Tuesday.
