WG in third place at ASC Tournament

Anna, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team is in third place after the first round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Monday afternoon in Anna. The Cru women fired a 352 team total and trail first-place McMurry University's 333 total by 19 strokes. U.T.-Tyler is in second place in the team standings after shooting 338. Hardin-Simmons University is in fourth place with a 358, Texas Lutheran University is fifth at 365, LeTourneau University posted a 378 for sixth place and U.T.-Dallas is in seventh place with a 403. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played on a par-72, 5,826-yard layout at Hurricane Creek Golf Course.

Allison Williams fired the low individual round for the UMHB women with an 86. Williams is part of a three-way tie for 11th place. Courtney Nelson carded an 87 for UMHB to tie for 14th place, Christi Williams shot 88 and is tied for 16th place, Kathryne Lozano recorded a 91 and is in 18th place and Taylour Shaw shot 97 for 29th place. Samantha Humphrey of U.T.-Tyler has the individual lead after shooting a 75 today.

"We are disappointed in the way we played today," UMHB head coach Darla Kirby said. "We know there is still time left and we just hope to go out and make up some ground tomorrow."

The tournament wraps up with 18 more holes tomorrow. Teams will tee off with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM. The ASC Tournament champion will receive and automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
