WS tops McMurry 6-1

Belton, TX- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team grabbed the lead early and never looked back as the Lady Cru rolled to a 6-1 victory over McMurry University Friday afternoon in Belton. The UMHB women improve to 8-8 overall and 8-4 in American Southwest Conference play with the win. The loss drops McMurry to 0-13-1 overall and 0-11-1 in the ASC.

Brittany Clemens gave UMHB a 1-0 lead when she used a Brittany Paxton assist 14:45 into the game. Lauren Thorne stretched it to 2-0 eight minutes later with an unassisted goal. Ashley Schiller added another goal just under three minutes later to put UMHB up 3-0 at halftime. Clemens scored again two minutes into the second half and Lateah Lucero scored two minutes later to put UMHB up 5-0. Mickie Arredondo scored off an assist from Lucero at the 62:00 mark to give the Lady Cru a 6-0 lead. McMurry finally got on the board with Sophie Ellebaek's goal off an assist from Gracie Rodriguez at the 70:00 mark. Ally Sargeant had three saves for UMHB as the Lady Cru outshot McMurry 22-4 in the victory.

The UMHB women will close out the regular season with a 1:00 PM home match against Hardin-Simmons University tomorrow at the Cru Sports Plex. The Lady Cru has already clinched a berth in the ASC Championship Tournament. That tournament will be played at Hardin-Simmons University next weekend in Abilene.
