WS falls to Hardin-Simmons 4-0

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team could not overcome an early deficit and the Lady Cru fell to Hardin-Simmons University 4-0 Saturday afternoon in Belton. The loss drops the UMHB women to 8-9 overall and 8-5 in American Southwest Conference play. The Cowgirls improve to 17-1 overall and 13-0 in the ASC with the victory.

HSU took a 1-0 lead when Beth Craig scored off an assist from Laura Newbrough just 8:00 into the match. Carlyn Powers added a goal off an assist from Cassie Sandifer 26 minutes later to make it 2-0 HSU at the half. Morgan Loyd added a pair of second-half goals for the Cowgirls, the first coming on a penalty kick to provide the final margin. Ally Sargeant had seven saves in goal for the Lady Cru as HSU outshot UMHB 14-3. Christi Carr and Alyssa Derrick combined for two saves and the shutout for HSU.

The match closed out the regular season for the UMHB women. The Lady Cru will now advance to the ASC Championship Tournament for just the second time in the program's history. The UMHB women are the #6 seed and will open the tournament with a 2:00 PM first-round game against U.T.-Tyler on Friday. The winner of that match moves on to play #2 seed U.T.-Tyler in a 2:00 PM semifinal on Saturday. The tournament will be played at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
