Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's tennis team will return to the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament after a three-year absence when the 2008 Tournament opens Friday in Tyler. The UMHB women finished the regular season with a 7-3 overall record and a 6-1 mark in ASC West Division play and the Cru women are the #2 seed from the West Division in this year's tournament. UMHB will open with a 12:00 PM first-round match against East Division #3 seed LeTourneau University (10-10) on Friday. The winner of that match will advance to a 2:30 PM semifinal match on Saturday against tournament host and East Division #1 seed U.T.-Tyler (15-3). East Division #2 seed Mississippi College (7-7) will take on West Division #3 seed McMurry University (7-11) in the other first-round match with that winner moving on to face West Division #1 seed Hardin-Simmons (10-6) in the other semifinal on Saturday. The two semifinal winners will meet in the championship match on Sunday afternoon with the winner claiming the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis National Championships.

The Cru women feature five underclassmen and senior Heather Maust (Sr., Brazos HS). Elise Kunze (Fr., Georgetown) has the best individual singles record for the Cru this spring at 8-1. Christi Voss (Fr., Jarrell) and Whitney Wolz (So., Caldwell) are both 8-2 in individual dual match singles. Voss and Wolz are also both unbeaten in ASC dual match singles play this spring. Maust, Rebecca Everett (Fr., Breckenridge) and Amber Long (So., Copperas Cove) are also providing strength in the line-up for the Cru women. UMHB has used six different combinations in doubles play this spring, but a line-up of Long-Wolz, Kunze-Voss and Everett-Maust has been the most consistent for the Cru.

The ASC Championship Tournament will be played at both the Summers Tennis Center on the U.T.-Tyler campus and at the Tyler Tennis and Swim Club. For more information, visit the ASC Tennis Championship Tournament web site at http://www.uttyler.edu/athletics/asctennis/.
