VB falls to Texas Lutheran in ASC Tournament

Richardson, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team went toe-to-toe with Texas Lutheran University, but the Cru could not overcome an early deficit in a three-game loss to the Bulldogs in an American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament first-round match Friday afternoon in Richardson. The loss ends UMHB's season with a 13-19 overall record. Texas Lutheran improves to 20-6 on the season and the Bulldogs now advance to take on U.T.-Dallas in a semifinal match tonight.
The Cru battled back from an early hole in game one, but could not come all the way back on the way to a 30-27, 30-24, 30-24 defeat. UMHB tied game one at 27 before giving up the last three points. The next two games also went back-and-forth until the Bulldogs pulled them out. UMHB hit .098 as a team while TLU posted a .202 hitting percentage.
Erin Davis led the Cru with seven kills and Melanie Daniell, Jade Norwid and Alexandra Johansson-Jones added six kills apiece. Stephanie Little had 16 assists and 10 digs and Davis added 15 assists and 13 digs. Erin Maenius posted a team-high 21 digs for the Cru. Jamie Jahns led TLU with 16 kills and Jessica Stetler added 14 more. Melissa Mudge had a match-high 28 digs for the Bulldogs and Megan Purser posted 44 assists and 17 digs.
The UMHB women were making back-to-back ASC Championship Tournament appearances for the first time in the program's history. Today's loss also closes out the career of the lone UMHB senior, four-year letter winner Stephanie Little, a setter from Waxahachie.
