WS places seven on ASC All-Conference Team

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team placed seven players on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference Teams. The Lady Cru had a pair of Second Team selections, placed two on the Third Team and had three players earn Honorable Mention All-Conference.

Lauren Thorne and Jennifer Zimmerman were both voted to the All-Conference Second Team. Thorne, a midfielder from Round Rock High School, scored four goals and added four assists for 12 total points. She also tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals. Zimmerman, a senior from Huntsville High School, helped anchor a UMHB defense that held opponents to a 1.87 goals against average and posted four shutouts.

Mickie Arredondo and Megan Jones were both named to the All-Conference Third Team. Arredondo, a sophomore midfielder from Bryan High School, led the Lady Cru with seven goals and 15 total points. She added an assist and had a game-winning goal. Jones, a freshman defender from Humble High School, started all 18 matches and joined Zimmerman in a solid defensive backline for the UMHB women.

Brittany Paxton, Ally Sargeant and Kim Wobecky were voted Honorable Mention All-Conference. Paxton, a sophomore midfielder from Houston Christian High School, had three goals, one assist and seven total points. Sargeant, a sophomore goalkeeper from Bryan High School, posted four shutouts and a 1.89 goals against average. She also posted 81 total saves. Wobecky, a freshman midfielder from Plano East High School, had one goal, three assists and five total points.

This is the third All-Conference selection for Thorne and Zimmerman. Arredondo, Jones, Paxton, Sargeant and Wobecky are all first-time All-Conference picks.

The UMHB women finished the 2007 season with an 8-10 overall record and went 8-5 in ASC play. The Lady Cru advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament for just the second time in the program's history before falling to U.T.-Tyler in a first-round match.
