UMHB MBB beats ETBU 66-50 in ASC Championship Tournament

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team took control of the game down the stretch and the Cru rolled to a 66-50 victory over East Texas Baptist in an American Southwest Conference Men's Basketball Championship Tournament First Round game Friday night in Belton. The UMHB men improve to 23-3 overall on the season and stretch their home-court winning streak to 25 in a row. The Cru will advance to face Hardin-Simmons University in a 4:00 PM semifinal game tomorrow afternoon. ETBU falls to 9-17 on the season with the loss.
ETBU led 16-15 with 7:48 left to play in the first half before the Cru used a 10-2 run to take a 25-18 lead with 4:05 to play. UMHB would settle for a 30-23 halftime lead. The Cru opened the second half with an 8-2 run to push the lead to 13 points with 14:41 remaining. ETBU would battle back to within three points at 41-38 with 10:49 left on the clock. UMHB would then go on an 18-3 run to push the lead to 18 points and UMHB cruised to the victory from there.
Tim Lytle came off the bench to lead UMHB with 17 points on 5-8 shooting from the field. Lytle's 17 points in just 14 minutes of play. Tilmon Gaddy added 13 points and nine rebounds and Ryan Burgart also grabbed nine boards for the Cru. Tokorra Cato was the only player in double figures for the Tigers with 11 points. Jeremiah Pojah added nine points and eight rebounds for ETBU. UMHB shot just 39 per cent from the field and 32 per cent from three-point range. ETBU hit 35 per cent from the field and 27 per cent from beyond the arc.
