SB drops two games to Houston-Victoria
04/29/08
Victoria, TX- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team could not generate enough offense in either game and the Cru dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Houston-Victoria Tuesday afternoon in Victoria. UMHB lost game one 5-1 and then fell 2-0 in game two. The losses snap the Cru's 24-game winning streak and drop UMHB to 31-7 overall on the season. HVU improves to 30-16 on the season with the two victories.
The Cru grabbed an early lead but could not hold it in a 5-1 game one loss. Kelsey Greeson singled home Kacie Kripner with the UMHB run and the Cru would take a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning. That's when the Jaguars erupted for five runs to put the game out of reach. Greeson took the loss to drop to 15-2 on the season and she had her personal 15-game winning streak snapped. Megan Bohne had two hits for the Cru in the game.
UMHB could not push across a run to overcome an early deficit in a 2-0 loss in game two. Daphne Kahlig scattered eight hits but took the loss for the Cru to fall to 12-3 on the year. Charlsie Cope had two his for UMHB in that game.
UMHB will now return to action with the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament this weekend in Irving. The Cru is the #1 seed from the West Division and has a first-round bye. UMHB will open the tournament with a winner's bracket game at 11:00 AM on Friday.
