VB beats U.T.-Tyler in four games

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team won the first two games and then held off a U.T.-Tyler rally as the Cru posted a four-game win over the Patriots Thursday night in Belton. UMHB improves to 9-10 overall and 6-5 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops U.T.-Tyler to 6-15 overall and 2-11 in the ASC on the season.

UMHB took control of the match early on the way to a 30-20, 30-18, 27-30, 30-22 victory. The Cru hit .176 as a team while the Patriots posted a .165 hitting percentage. UMHB had just two service errors while U.T.-Tyler posted 11 service errors.

Alexandra Johansson-Jones led UMHB with 16 kills and Jade Norwid and Leigh Ann Hall added 11 kills apiece. Stephanie Little had a team-high 28 assists and she added 20 digs. Erin Maenius added 22 digs and Erin Davis chipped in 18 assists. Rebecca Taylor topped U.T.-Tyler with 10 kills and Megan McCarthy had 23 digs. Lindsey Schofield led the Patriots with 10 assists.

UMHB will now travel to Austin for three matches at the ASC Cross Over Tournament this weekend. The Cru will open against McMurry University tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. UMHB will then take on Hardin-Simmons University and Concordia Texas on Saturday.
