The year is moving right along and time for Family Weekend is drawing near. If you haven't already marked your calendar and made your plans to attend, it is not too late. Family Weekend is a great time to visit the beautiful UMHB campus and see how your son/daughter is enjoying campus life. If your child is new to UMHB, it is a great time to see them and explore together. If your child is a returning student, it is just a great time to come for a visit. I hope the year is going well so far for you and your child. First-year adjustments can be trying at times. If your child is a first-year student, I hope you have subscribed to The Crusader Update published by Dr. Steve Theodore. It is filled with very useful information and helpful hints. If you are not familiar with this, please go to http://www.umhb.edu/crusaderupdates/.  You will be able to read current and past issues and subscribe.

The football season is underway and UMHB has a perfect record. I hope you will be able to attend the game against Louisiana College on Saturday, October 13, during Family Weekend. During the football game, CPO's annual fundraiser will take place. We will have a silent auction of many different kinds of baskets. The baskets will be on display Saturday morning and you can bid on your favorite at the game. Wining bids will be announced before the game is over.

The start of another school year is drawing near. This week will be busy for you and your son or daughter as you make last minute arrangements to move in on Saturday, August 18. Shopping, packing, deciding what to take and what to leave behind, send-off parties... what an exciting time but yet an apprehensive time if it is your child's first time to go off to college. The summer my oldest (my son) came to UMHB he was so excited, he was packed and ready to move out of the house by mid July...

If your child has not signed up for Welcome Week yet, it isn't too late. Just go to www.umhb.edu/welcomeweek. It is definitely an experience not to be missed. It will help your son or daughter connect with others early and learn much about campus life at UMHB. Our kids made life-long friends at Welcome Week.

On Saturday during Move-In, please stop by the Crusader Parent Organization (CPO) table to find out more about our organization and how you can get involved. Remember, as a parent of a Crusader, you are already a member. On the UMHB parent page, go to Crusader Parent Organization in the sidebar and click on "Crusader Parent Organization" to find out who we are and what we do.
