BGCT Executive Director to Speak at Chapel

04/09/08

Belton, Texas -Randel Everett, newly appointed executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, will be speaking at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16 in the W. W. Walton Chapel. Dr. Everett was chosen as the new director because of his communication and visionary leadership. Serving as a pastor and seminary president in the nation's capital has given him a unique opportunity to observe the challenges facing the church in a multicultural pluralistic society.

Everett comes to the BGCT after having served as the founding president of the John Leland Center for Theological Studies in Arlington, Virginia since 1998. He has also served as the senior pastor in several churches in Virginia, Florida, Texas and Arkansas.

Everett earned his Bachelor of Arts from Ouachita Baptist University, Arkansas, Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Doctor of Ministry from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Divinity from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia.

Dr. Everett's heritage, preparation and experiences in ministry have equipped him to provide leadership for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He is committed to the local church and believes the denomination exists to serve, encourage and provide resources for the local church. Everett feels at home with the multiple constituencies of the BGCT having served as a pastor and as an institutional president who looked to the state convention for resources and support.
