Scott & White School of Nursing Pinning Ceremony

Belton, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Scott and White College of Nursing held its traditional pinning ceremony on May 8, 2009 in the W. W. Walton Chapel on the university campus. Forty-four nursing graduates participated in the pinning ceremony. Joining them at the ceremony were their families, friends, and classmates.

Dr. Sharon Souter, Dean of the College of Nursing, presided over the evening. The graduates were pinned by Christi Emerson and Ann Crawford, nursing faculty. The pin that each received is unique and has been the same design since the first class graduated from Scott and White Training School in 1904.

During the pinning program, outstanding graduates were recognized and given awards. Martha Sicking from Bay City, Texas received the Spirit of Nursing award. Elizabeth Aycock from Richland, Texas received the Duce Award. Elizabeth Aycock also received the Clinical Excellence Award. Cassandra Shippee of Killeen, Texas received the Academic Excellence Award. The Purple Heart Award was given to Chelsea Glenn of Houston, Texas, and the Golden Cross Award was presented to Natalie Hoffman of Sugarland, Texas. The recipient of the Laura Cole Award was Inita Green of Dallas, Texas. This award was established in 1972, in honor of the late Anna Laura Cole who was Director of Nursing from 1933-1969 at Scott & White Hospital and was designed to recognize the graduate who has demonstrated leadership in organizational activities, community spirit and above average performance in nursing.

The Tau Epsilon chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society Induction was conducted during the Nursing Pinning Ceremony. Twelve graduates and two community members were inducted. Ms Bobbie Dixon, chapter president, introduced the new members.

The invocation and benediction were given by graduates, Martha Sicking and Chelsea Glenn, respectively.
