Summer Classes Set
05/26/09
Belton, Texas - Summer classes at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will be a bit different this year for college students. For the first time, the university has switched to a four-day class week. Summer classes will meet Monday through Thursday beginning June 1.
According to University Provost Steve Oldham, the new schedule will take effect when summer classes begin on June 1.
"We decided to switch to a four-day class schedule in the summer as an energy efficiency measure for both the student and the university," said Oldham.
"The idea first came up when the cost of gasoline was approaching $4.00 a gallon. We thought reducing the school week would help commuting students save money, it would also help us save energy costs since we would not have to cool classrooms on Fridays."
New students can register to attend UMHB on June 1 through June 3. Current students can register at any time prior to June 3.
Summer I classes begin on June 1, and Summer II classes begin on June 29. For more information contact the university at 295-8642.
