Two One-Act Plays at CAC Friday & Saturday

10/16/09

Belton, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor College of Visual and Performing Arts will present an evening of two one-act plays  "Spring Dance" and "Blind Date" by award winning Texas playwright Horton Foote.  Both plays will be presented each evening on Friday and Saturday, October 30 and 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cultural Activities Center in Temple. The presentation is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the general public.

The first play, "Spring Dance," is a drama. In Spring Dance, Annie and her fellow inmates can only discover who they are by recognizing their connections to the enduring patterns around them. The pain of loss and desertion are too great, and so they repeatedly chose fantasy over the frightening give and take of genuine attachment.

The second play, "Blind Date," is a comedy. A young woman capable of telling a young man that he is dumb or stupid is more trustworthy, the play suggests, than one who is gracious all the time. True intimacy comes from honesty not the illusion of sweetness.

This production is directed by Michael Fox and sponsored by the UMHB Theatre Department.
