Nursing Capstone Symposium

Belton, Texas - The Scott & White College of Nursing at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will hold the Nursing Capstone Symposium on Tuesday, November 17, from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the Lord Conference Center located in the Parker Academic Building on the UMHB campus.

The Symposium, presented by the senior UMHB nursing students enrolled in the Community/Public Health Nursing course and the Nursing Leadership course, is held each semester. Students will present an overview of their nursing capstone projects. These projects require the students to complete a review of the literature pertinent to their project and to utilize concepts and processes studied throughout the nursing curriculum. In addition, projects are to be of benefit to the communities they serve. This culminating experience is a significant requirement in the successful completion of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Scott & White College of Nursing program.

Poster presentations are scheduled from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Projects include: "Central Texas Housing Consortium: Fall Festival" presented by Jennifer Bates, Kendall Brown, John Cawthon, and Jennifer Pietrowski; "Central Texas Regional Advisory Council: Community Assessment" presented by Ashley Arisco, Russell Gillespie, Brittany Gohring, Ashley Hintze, and Lynda Huynh; "Hillcrest Getterman Wellness Center: A New Leash on Life, Pet Therapy" presented by Danisha Akins, Katie Blackwell, Rachael Heffer, and Brandy Zatlo; "Scott & White Trauma Services/Safe Kids Coalition: Walk This Way, Pedestrian Safety" presented by Jenny Casteel, Aimee Lequang, Megan Putman, Jonathan Shenkir, and Tomekia Starling; "UMHB Wellness Program: Faculty/Staff Assessment" presented by Frank Dudek, Layne Grisham, Iris Howell, and April Williams and "UMHB Wellness Program: Nutrition Education" presented by Rosa Colon, Donella Courtney, Keisha Jones, and My O'Leary.

Speaker presentations are scheduled from 2:45 - 4:30 p.m. Projects include "Lone Star Circle of Care: Community Assessment" presented by Benedetta Bruni, Stacey Hall, Michelle Monahan-Glosser, and Brittney Tellez; "Scott & White Clinic, Sun City: Flu Clinics" presented by Brittany Bailey, Jana Carter, Michelle Johnson, and Sarah Saucedo; "Scott & White Trauma Services: Child Passenger Seat Safety" presented by Drew Ashley, Erika Mendoza, Kelly Rehmann, Cassidy Van, and Karla Woods; and "Central Texas Poison Center: Medication Drop Off Day" presented by Neferti Arizola, Amanda Cearley, Franklin Johnson, Ruth Johnston, and Mary Palmer.

The public is welcome to attend any presentation or the entire Symposium. Admission is free. The Symposium is sponsored by the Scott and White College of Nursing and is co-sponsored by Tau Epsilon, the UMHB Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. The primary faculty for the Community/Public Health Nursing course is Tracy Booth, MS.Ed., RNC and primary faculty for the Leadership course is Glenda Bush, MSN, RN.
