Performances of Poetry

04/30/08

Belton, Texas - Performance Studies students in the Department of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will perform poetry on Wednesday, April 30 at 1:00 p.m. in Brindley Auditorium in York Science Hall. This presentation is open to the public. These performances, which are to be filmed for an Austin television station, are available for civic and educational organizations, as the students' schedules permit.


Ginny Hime will perform The Dawn Wind by Rudyard Kipling. Chelsy Harrison will recite If You Were Coming in the Fall by Emily Dickinson. Cheryl Van Dam will deliver Echo by Christina Rossetti. Laura Gebhardt will perform The Lady of Shalott by Alfred Lord Tennyson. Jessica Perry will present Acquainted with the Night and Samantha Anderson will perform A Line-Storm Song by Robert Frost. Amy Hoover will recite The Rose Did Caper on Her Cheek and Cheryl Sims will deliver Hope is the Thing with Feathers by Emily Dickinson. Katie Corbett will present The Waking by Theodore Roethke. Kystal Danuz will perform I Am Not Yours by Sara Teasdale. Ashley Taylor will recite Composed Upon Westminster Bridge by William Wordsworth. Jason Diehl will present Why Did I Laugh Tonight? No Voice Will Tell by John Keats. Josh Davis will perform Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost. Marshal Reeves will present Soldier by Ben Phoenix. Raychelle Presely will deliver Psalm 118. Erin Moran will present Petals of Shawn. Aja Bradford will perform Homage to My Hips by Lucille Clifton. Keya Brown will recite I'm Not Lonely by Nikki Giovanni. Cordell Lewis will present Let America be America Again and Angel Bell will perform Mother to Son by Langston Hughes.

These Voice and Diction students in the Department of Communication and Media Studies have prepared deliveries of a broad range of prose and poetry voice samples using the text, Speak Skillfully and Successfully: A Guide to Developing Diction and Voice-Over Excellence. This book by Dr. Diane Howard, Performance Studies Professor at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, and Ms. Lainie Frasier, Voice Talent, of VoiceWorks Inc. can be found in the UMHB Bookstore and Library.
