Nursing Pinning Ceremony

Belton, Texas – Thirty-four students from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will receive their College of Nursing Pin during the College of Nursing Pinning Ceremony at 7:30 P.M. on Friday, May 5th.The ceremony will be held in W.W. Walton Chapel on the UMHB campus.

Ms. Kaylar Griffin, a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner at the Bell Co Public Health District, will be the featured speaker.Ms. Griffin is a clinical preceptor with the nursing students during one oftheir junior orsenior community based experiences.

Ms. Griffin graduated with her BSN degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in May 1995 and then worked in the family planning, maternity, immunization, STD/HIV clinics at the Bell Co Health Dept. as a staff nurse.She was also the case manager for the TB and mammography programs. She worked at Darnall Army Community Hospital in the Newborn Nurseries and later worked in their community health clinics where she developed, organized and participated in health promotion programs for soldiers, troops and their families.She has worked as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner at the Bell Co. Health District since 1998 after completion of the nurse practitioner program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. In 2002 she completed her Master of Science degree in Nursing at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The graduating seniors will be pinned by Dr. Linda Pehl, Dean of the College of Nursing after they are called to the stage by Dr. Lucia Tipton, Associate Dean of the College of Nursing.A variety of special awards will be announced during the Pinning Ceremony.

The Pinning Ceremony is planned by nursing students with faculty guidance through the College of Nursing Special Events Committee.The nursing pin is a century old symbol of service to others.The nursing pin today represents completion of the nursing program and represents nursing excellence and service to others.
