Belton, Texas - Dr. Sharon Souter has been named dean of the Scott & White College of Nursing at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor effective August 1.
President Jerry G. Bawcom announced the appointment of Souter, who has served most recently as director of the Bachelor's of Science Programs in the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
"Dr. Souter brings a tremendous mix of educational credentials, work experience and a commitment to faith-based learning, making her an exceptional fit for this university," said Bawcom.
Souter has served as director of nursing programs at New Mexico State University at Carlsbad. She was named the "2000 Woman of the Year" by the Carlsbad chapter of Business and Professional Women. She also taught nursing courses at the University of Phoenix in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Souter has served as chairperson for the New Mexico Board of Nursing and is a member of the Baptist Nursing Fellowship. Her research has focused on nutritional risk among older adults, resulting in several publications and presentations at national, regional and state nursing conferences.
Dr. Souter earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Oklahoma Baptist University, a Master's of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio.
