In the fall, things will be changing in dorms on campus as new rules allow more freedom for residents.


“The Student Government Association and Resident Hall Association collaborative committee wrote two different bills, which were then passed by SGA to the administration,” said Kristy Brischke, the director of student organizations.


The two bills were developed by students and for students, suggesting the rules for the dorms become more similar to those of the apartments on campus.


“The first bill deals with the sign-in and sign-out process and the late night and overnight entry policies,” Brischke said. “(Students) will no longer have (to) sign in or out if (they) leave the residence hall after hours.”

Zimbabwe’s election results remain secret to citizens while President Robert G. Mugabe demands a recount.


The leader has ruled over the African country for 28 years. Many people remain quiet about their political opinions.


Class of ’61 alum and former missionary to Zimbabwe, Gayla Vardeman Corley, said, “We took no stand in the political arena while there. If we were still there, our sympathy would be with the rural peoples who seek a way to end the many difficulties they face, but any role we took would be to pray for (God’s) will.”

Seniors pass on traditions, participate in events differently

Another year is wrapping up, which can mean many things: finals approaching, due dates creeping up and saying goodbye to seniors. However, last-minute memories are made by attending a series of UMHB traditions.


Ring and Robing Ceremonies and Midnight March will be held April 18. They will be arranged differently this year and for future senior classes. During Robing Ceremony, seniors have the opportunity to pass down student leadership to juniors who are stepping into their new positions on campus. At this time, juniors are officially allowed for the first time to sing the alumni or senior song, “Up With the Purple.”
