Summer Chemistry Camps

04/21/08

Belton, Texas - Registration for children's summer chemistry camps at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor is underway. Enrollment is for rising 4th, 5th and 6th graders and is based on early registration. The cost for the camp is $90.00 and the sessions are from 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Session I is set for June 9-13, and Session II is set for June 16-20.

Dr. Darrell Watson, professor of chemistry, has designed the camps to motivate middle school students towards an interest in science, while giving them actual laboratory experience. Participants will make slime and nylon, turn pennies into gold and silver, and conduct many other exciting chemical investigations.

School teachers who are interested in learning these exciting hands-on science activities to utilize in their classrooms, can also participate at no charge. Some partial scholarships are available for students.

CHEM CAMP is sponsored by the Heart 'O Texas Local Section of the American Chemical Society, the UMHB Chemistry Department and the Sigma Pi Chemistry Club. For more information please call Dr. Watson at (254) 295-4537 or email him at dwatson@umhb.edu. The CHEM CAMP website and download the registration form is at www.chemcamp.com.
