CLEP--College Level Examination Program

In some instances, a student may feel that he/she has sufficient knowledge in a certain subject area and does not wish to take the particular subject course. In such cases, the student may request to take a CLEP Examination in the particular subject area(s). To receive credit for the particular corresponding offered course according to the policies of this brochure, the student must score at or above the respective A.C.E. score listed on the Credit By Exam table. CLEP examinations are administered by computer only and last approximately 90 minutes. Students may receive score results upon completion of the examination. Students are tested by appointment only. The non-refundable CLEP testing fee is $70.00 per test, payable to CLEP by check, money order or credit card. A separate testing fee of $15.00 is also required, payable to UMHB. Both fees are due at the time of test administration. CLEP Examinations are given at most colleges and universities. The free booklet, CLEP Colleges, lists all CLEP test centers that you can contact about testing schedules. This publication is available by writing or calling CLEP, P.O. Box 6601, Princeton, NJ, 08541-6601; (609) 951-1026. Examinees should allow 4-6 weeks following the test date for test results from examinations with an essay. Detailed descriptions of CLEP Examinations, sample questions, and suggested resources for preparation are included in The Official Handbook for the CLEP Examinations, available at most bookstores, or from CLEP on the Internet at CollegeBoard.com.

Students in the Armed Forces have CLEP Examinations available at no charge through the Education Services Center at Fort Hood or other military installations. Contact the education officer for more information.
