Health Center Services

Health Services are available free to provide health care and education. Emphasis is given to the whole student--physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual needs. The goal is to empower individuals with health care knowledge and Christian principles to make informed decisions about health-related issues. Walk-in Hours

Monday-Friday 8:30 A.M. to 5 P.M., Summer:  8 A.M. to 4 P.M.
No appointment is necessary, and all services are confidential.  For emergencies, call campus police at 295-5555 or 911.

Location

The clinic is located in the Frazier Memorial Health Center (SDO), 1101 King Street (next to Gettys and Hardy). The phone number is 254 295-4623; FAX 254 295-4142.

Emergency

Contact the Campus Police at 5555 or 911. There are two hospital emergency rooms within six miles of the campus. UMHB does NOT have a physician on campus. Please check with your insurance company as to which clinics are "in network" for your health plan. There is usually an 800 number on the back of your health card.

General health info may be obtained by calling King's Daughters Clinic After Hours (5p-7:30am) Triage Nurse at 298-2400 [prompt #2] or the Scott and White Pan Nurse: 724-7037 - 24/7, 24 hours-a-day.

Services Available on Campus Include:

  • Illness evaluation and referral as necessary
  • Health information is provided to each RA (resident assistant) office in the dorms
  • Vaccines:  Tetanus, Flu, and others upon request including Memomune (Meningitis vaccine) and TB skin testing
  • Over-the-counter medication with personal instructions for use
  • Dressing, ace wraps, ice/heat packs, medicated ointments, etc. for minor trauma care
  • Suture removal
  • Physician referrals
  • Diet and nutrition counseling--assistance in forming weight loss support groups
  • Wellness education information
  • Breast and testicular self-exam information/instruction
  • Sponsors varying groups on campus to assist with activities--i.e. marathon runners, aerobic activities
  • Health Quest--multidisciplinary groups share health information
  • Make students aware of available services in the area
  • Here to listen, will refer to UMHB Counselors as needed
