Student to Attend Park Cities Math Institute

Belton, Texas - Ashley Shafer, a junior math major and Christian studies minor at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, has been invited to attend the Park Cities Math Institute in Park City, Utah, July 6-26.

Math majors from around the nation will attend, what is a "by-invitation-only" institute. Shafer will attend seminars and lectures on different topics during the three-week period.

Shafer, of Belvieu outside of Baytown, was invited to attend the institute due to her strong math background. She states that the purpose of attending is to broaden her range, to see where she is in comparison to other students and to prepare her for graduate school.

"I will be able to meet other math students and see what it will take to prepare for graduate school," said Shafer.
