Huckins Apartments 

This two-story, apartment-style housing complex was named in honor of James Huckins who was prominent in the establishment of the college at Independence, Texas.  The complex was originally purchased and remodeled in 1995 and later updated.   Located on the corner of Main St. and 9th Avenue, the complex is one block from Davidson Academic Building and is within easy walking distance to the Library, Parker Academic Building, and the Chapel.  The complex is made up of 4 buildings with a central courtyard and houses 62 residents.


Resident Assistants are assigned to live within the complex and the Resident Director lives on-site.  Campus Police patrol this area during the day and evening hours.


Room Details:

  • The bedroom is 11' X 11' (121 sq. ft.). The living area, including the dining space and kitchen is approximately 252 sq. ft.
  • The dining area is furnished with a dining room table and chairs. The living area is unfurnished.
  • The kitchen has a set of cabinets, a sink, a full size refrigerator, disposal, and stove, and a microwave.
  • The double occupancy bedroom comes equipped with two twin beds with standard 75"mattresses, two chest of drawers, 5' X 8' shared, walk-in closet and a second smaller closet in the room. There is also a small storage closet in the unit.
  • The shared bathroom is 8' X 5'.
  • There are phone jacks, internet jacks, and cable hookup in the unit. Local phone, cable and internet service are provided.
  • Mini-blinds are provided for the windows.
  • Floors are carpeted in the bedroom. The dining, kitchen and living areas have a neutral tone, tile floor.
  • Walls are a neutral tone and are sheetrock. Students must check with the hall staff before hanging anything on walls or other surfaces within the room.
