Yearbook Staff Earns Six National CSPA Awards

Belton, Texas - Several members of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor's yearbook who worked tirelessly on the 100th edition of The Bluebonnet were recently rewarded for their efforts with six prestigious Gold Circle Awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. In addition to these individual awards, CSPA also recognized the 2007 yearbook with a Gold Medalist Award based on categories such as concept, design, writing, coverage and photography.Jennifer Meers of Dallas, a senior mass communication major, was awarded first place in the End Sheets category, second place in the Index category, and honorable mention in both the Division Pages category and the Color Spread category.
Taylor Davis of Spring, a junior mass communication major, was awarded third place in the Mini-Magazine category and honorable mention in the Feature Presentation category.
Janie Wayland of Houston, a junior education major, and alumna Kristine Endsley were also awarded honorable mention in the Division Pages category.
Columbia's Gold Circle Awards program started in 1984. Gold Circle Awards recognize superior work by student journalists working with either print or online media. The program provides opportunities for student journalists to be recognized for individual and team achievements for individual stories, articles, cartoons, photos and designs. The program offers 75 categories for individual entries in verbal and visual categories for newspapers, yearbooks and magazines.
The CSPA is a program of the graduate school of journalism at Columbia University in New York. UMHB is a CSPA member.
