The UMHB Teaching and Learning Clinics provide valuable support for children and families in our community while also offering hands-on training opportunities for our education students. Students ages 3-21 with any special need are eligible to attend our Special Needs Clinic. Our Reading Clinic supports students who face challenges in literacy by offering targeted, research-based instruction to strengthen their reading abilities. Both clinics are led by UMHB faculty and staffed by education students who are committed to serving others with compassion and excellence. Special Needs Clinic

UMHB’s Special Needs Clinic provides children and young adults with individualized support to help them grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our clinic is designed to meet each child where they are, focusing on goals such as improving communication, building social skills, strengthening routines, and enhancing sensory awareness. Through personalized instruction, hands-on activities, and the use of specialized resources, the clinic creates a safe, encouraging environment where children can thrive while also giving future educators valuable experience working with diverse learners.

Reading Clinic

The UMHB Reading Clinic is designed to support children in grades K–5 who are struggling to meet grade-level expectations in reading and writing. Using individualized, research-based strategies, the clinic provides targeted instruction to strengthen literacy skills such as phonics, fluency, comprehension, and written expression. Sessions are led by UMHB faculty and staffed by education students, who gain valuable teaching experience while helping children grow in confidence and ability.
